Be kind. Don't harm anyone. Nothing unlawful. What's said here stays here. Keepers may quiet you, or ask you to leave.
What the river keeps
Nothing you say. Your words are sealed, so not even the river can read them. Lanterns and notes to the keepers aren't. You trust the keeper to keep the river honest.
How it works
Crossing
An obol brings you in, once. Keep the river phrase you're given somewhere safe: it brings you back if a browser forgets you. Lost everything? Choose I've crossed before, then Can't get back in?, and leave word for the keepers.
Rooms and the Ferry
Choose a room on the shore. To talk with just a few, choose their names and press Offer passage, or from the shore, Send the ferryman for someone. Nothing said is kept.
Lanterns
Set one adrift from the shore. It floats for up to three days. Click a lantern to read it.
Waving
Type /wave, o/ or /farewell.
Is it really them?
Choose their name, press Verify, and read your ten words to each other on a call. Compare once with the keeper, and everyone they've vouched for is checked for you.
A new device
Add a device: scan the code with your new device, or type the code it shows. Treat the code like a password.
Scan this with your new device's camera. It works once, for five minutes.
Or type the code your new device shows. This lets that device be you: only type a code from your own device.
Does your new device show these words?
No other device? Choose I've crossed before and give your name and phrase. On a phone, add Acheron to your home screen so it keeps you.
Sounds
A few quiet sounds when the ferryman brings word, someone takes your obol, or words arrive while you're looking elsewhere.
When something's wrong
Press call a keeper in a room. It waits for a keeper, a week at most, and isn't sealed.
Your river phrase
Think someone saw it? Make a new one; the old one stops working.
The river will never promise more than this. Crossing means you accept its ways.
Set a lantern adrift
A short note for the others. It drifts for a few days, then the fog takes it.

Your river phrase
If a browser ever forgets you, choose I've crossed before at the shore and give your name and this phrase. You'll be known again. Save it in your password manager, or somewhere safe. It won't be shown again.
